Pet Import to Qatar — Dogs & Cats

Parkview Pet Center manages the complete pet import process for dogs and cats arriving in Qatar. From the clinic in Madinat Khalifa North, Doha, the team handles ISO microchipping, vaccination protocols, rabies titer testing, health certificate coordination, Qatar import permit applications through the Department of Animal Resources, IATA crate provision, airline coordination, and airport pickup at Hamad International Airport. Qatar does not quarantine pets when documentation is complete — but errors in paperwork cause delays at customs, which is why Parkview reviews every document before departure. The clinic has managed pet imports for Doha’s expat community since 2011 and is an IPATA member. Requirements vary by origin country, pet species, and vaccination history — the relocation team researches your specific case during the initial consultation. What’s Required to Import a Pet to Qatar

Microchipping

Qatar requires ISO 11784/11785 compliant, 15-digit microchips. The chip must be implanted before vaccinations and referenced on all travel documents. Parkview implants ISO-compliant chips on-site — if your pet was chipped overseas, the team verifies compatibility and scan confirmation before proceeding with any documentation. Microchipping service.

Vaccination Requirements

Dogs need DHLPP (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parainfluenza, parvovirus) plus rabies. Cats need FVRCP (feline viral rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, panleukopenia) plus rabies. Rabies must be administered at least 30 days but no more than 12 months before arrival. Parkview administers all required vaccines and maintains records formatted for international travel documentation. If your pet was vaccinated overseas, the team reviews and verifies existing records. Vaccination service.

Rabies Titer Test

Many origin countries require a rabies titer test — a blood test confirming adequate rabies antibodies. Blood must be drawn at least 30 days post-vaccination, and results take 2–4 weeks from an approved laboratory. Parkview draws blood on-site and manages submission to approved labs, tracking results and flagging any issues before they affect your timeline. Rabies titer test details.

Qatar Import Permit

Every pet entering Qatar requires an import permit from the Department of Animal Resources, Ministry of Municipality. The permit requires owner identification, vaccination records, microchip certificate, and rabies titer results. Parkview prepares and submits the application, tracks processing, and ensures the permit is ready before your pet travels. Import permit process.

Health Certificate

A veterinary health certificate must be issued in the origin country, confirming the pet is clinically healthy. Some countries require government endorsement. For pets already in Qatar or returning, Parkview issues health certificates directly. For pets arriving from abroad, the team coordinates with the origin vet to ensure the certificate meets Qatar’s requirements. Health certificate details.

IATA Travel Crate

Pets must travel in IATA-compliant crates sized for the animal to stand, turn, and lie down. Parkview sells IATA-approved crates, provides sizing guidance for your pet’s breed and weight, and offers crate conditioning advice so your pet is comfortable before travel day. IATA crate information.

Airline Coordination & Airport Arrival

Parkview coordinates with airlines operating from Hamad International Airport to book your pet’s travel. Qatar Airways accepts dogs and cats as checked baggage — cabin travel is not available for dogs or cats. On arrival day, Parkview’s team meets you at Hamad International Airport, assists with customs clearance, and transports your pet to the clinic or your home. Airline policies.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common questions

1 Does Qatar quarantine pets on arrival?

No. Qatar does not quarantine pets that arrive with complete documentation — microchip, vaccinations, rabies titer test, health certificate, and import permit. Incomplete paperwork can cause delays at customs, which is why Parkview reviews all documents before your pet’s departure. Call +974 4417 1560.

2 Can I bring my cat to Qatar?

Yes. Cats follow the same import process as dogs — ISO microchip, FVRCP and rabies vaccinations, rabies titer test, health certificate, and import permit. There are no banned cat breeds in Qatar. Parkview handles cat imports regularly. Call +974 4417 1560.

3 How long does the pet import process take?

Start at least 4–6 months before your move. The rabies titer test alone requires 30 days after vaccination plus 2–4 weeks for lab results. Parkview builds a timeline for your specific situation so nothing is missed. Call +974 4417 1560 to start planning.

4 What dog breeds are banned in Qatar?

Qatar restricts several breeds including Pit Bull Terrier, Rottweiler, and others. Parkview advises on breed-specific restrictions before you begin the process. See our banned breeds page for details.

5 Can my dog fly in the cabin to Qatar?

No. Qatar Airways does not permit dogs or cats in the passenger cabin — only falcons and service dogs. Pets travel in a pressurised, climate-controlled cargo hold. Parkview coordinates all airline bookings and ensures your pet’s crate meets airline requirements.

6 How much does it cost to import a pet to Qatar?

Import costs depend on the origin country, pet size, airline fees, crate requirements, and documentation complexity. Parkview provides a detailed breakdown during the initial consultation — call +974 4417 1560 or email relocation@parkviewpetcenter.com for a quote.

7 I’m moving to Qatar with multiple pets — can I bring them all?

Qatar allows one pet per person per year. Families with multiple pets can import under different household members. Parkview advises on multi-pet import logistics and timing. Call +974 4417 1560.

8 What if my pet’s paperwork is rejected at the airport?

Incomplete documentation can result in the pet being held at Hamad International Airport. Parkview prevents this by reviewing every document before departure and meeting clients at customs to assist with clearance.
